Prunes

I don't know what it is about prunes, but every time I feed them to Samuel somehow he gets them all over his face.  I thought he looked hilarious today, so I took these pictures.  The last one cracks me up.

Amazing

Thank goodness the new teeth coming in have not effected Samuel's new sleeping schedule.  He is a true sleeper now.  It is 7am and I am up and had half a cup of coffee and the boy is still asleep.  He went to bed around 7:45 last night and is still asleep.  I just went in to check on him to make sure he was still breathing because this is not normal.  He is snoozing away.  It is amazing how well he is sleeping now that we finally got him to sleep through the night.

I am going to try to do some things around the house before he wakes up.  Have a great Tuesday.

Another tooth has arrived

Well everyone was right, Samuel was teething.  Yesterday a little bit of a tooth starting poking out.  It is his top right, we think middle tooth.  It is hard to tell exactly which tooth it is since it just started to show up, but there is definitely one there.

We took Samuel to a wedding last night.  The mother and father of the bride were giving their speech and they both finished and were reaching for the champagne glasses to give one last toast.  The entire room was completely silent and Samuel let out a huge burp.  It was hilarious.  That's my son!

Anyway, that is about it.  We have been very busy this weekend and now both Dave and I are exhausted.

Pictures from the week

I was so lazy yesterday.  I didn't get out of my pj's until around 11:30 am.  It was great.

We watched Grey's Anatomy last night.  I am disappointed.  It just isn't as good as it used to be.  Why is it that George gets all the hot girls on the show? Give me a break, I feel like the writers are trying to make him much cooler then he is.  It is annoying.

We are getting a babysitter tomorrow afternoon.  Dave and I are both really excited.  She is coming over around 12:30.  We are going to run errands and who knows what else.  It will be nice to get out get with Dave.

We gave Samuel cauliflower this week as his new food.  He loves it.  So far the only food he really dislikes is bananas.  He prefers all the orange veggies, but he is starting to like the green ones too.  I always look forward to seeing what kind of reaction he will give us when we try a new food.  It is pretty funny.

Thank goodness it is Friday.  I am so ready for the weekend.

Here are some pictures from the last couple of days:

I'm just being honest

I am having one of those relaxing mornings.  I was really in the mood for coffee, so now I am on my second cup.  It is nice just to relax and enjoy not running around and stressing.

Yesterday I swam for 30 minutes.  Holy shit, swimming is hard.  I thought my lungs and heart were going to explode.  I didn't swim for 30 minutes straight, I think I probably would have died.  I had to take many breaks, but at least I got in the pool.  It was actually nice and relaxing, but I am not a good swimmer at all.  I took Samuel to the daycare for an hour.  It is bad when people who don't see him very often are ready to hand him back over after only an hour.  The lady at the daycare was very nice, but said he was very cranky for the last 30 minutes.  I had a feeling he was starting to teeth again, but I didn't want to give him any medicine until I was convinced.  Well, the lady at the daycare said, she thought for sure he was teething.  She said he wanted to put everything hard in his mouth, he was drooling profusely and he was super cranky.  Great! Just when he starts sleeping through the night.

The Parents as Teachers lady came by yesterday.  Although Samuel had been screaming like crazy for the 30 minutes before she came over, he was in a great mood for the first 45 minutes she was at our house.  She said he was doing great and she didn't believe us that he had been cranky before she came over.  Well, he wasn't about to let her leave without showing his true colors.  He got really cranky the last 15 to 20 minutes before she left.  Of course she told us too that she thought he was teething.  Jesus people, like we don't know.

Back to some positive things.  My mom and I have decided that we are going to walk a half marathon.  It is November 2nd in Clayton.  We have signed up and now I really have to get in shape.  I think my brother is going to try to run it.  There is no way I would attempt that right now.

I got Dave half of his birthday gift yesterday.  I would tell you all what I got, but he reads this thing, so I don't want to give it away.  I know he will be super excited and me too.  After I give it to him, I will let you all know what it was.

I have to be honest.  Now that Samuel is 6 months old, I really do love him!  The first 6 months I liked him, but I really didn't enjoy the first 6 months.  They were really really hard. Everyone told me to get through the first 6 weeks, then when those weeks passed they said to just get through the first 3 months.  Whatever. I say, just get through the first 6 months.  Samuel is so much more fun, interactive and loving.  The only thing I liked about the first 6 months was ... actually, I didn't really like the first 6 months much at all.  Okay, so having a little cuddly baby is really nice.  But now I am really enjoying every minute of motherhood.

This morning it was close to his first nap.  I was holding him and he was sucking his thumb (he normally does that right before he goes down for a nap) with his head on my shoulder, his other hand was rubbing my face.  All of the sudden he looked up at me and went open mouthed toward my left cheek, then he licked my entire side of the face (he thinks that is the way to kiss because that is how George kisses him).  Then he grabbed my face and licked the right side of my face, then to finish it off he licked my nose.  Sounds gross, but it was the cutest thing ever.  Then he put his head back on my shoulder and went back to sucking his thumb.

He is starting to wake up from his nap, so I am off.

Is this a sign?

Picture of George and Samuel yesterday:

Samuel is definitely getting a personality.  I can now officially say that Samuel has bitten the crap out of my nipple.  I am sure you guys really wanted to hear that, but I am still in shock at how much it hurt, so I had to share my pain.  He woke up from his nap this morning and I hadn't even really started feeding him and he chomped down.  I screamed really loudly and started yelling "No, No, No".  I literally wanted to grab his face and yank it off my boob, but my screaming startled him so much that he yanked himself off.  When he looked at me I told him "No biting".  Then the little shit looked right at me, smiled huge and started laughing.  I am not kidding he actually started laughing.  Then he went right back and started eating.  Should I take this as a sign that he is not going to be listening to me in the future?!

I am off to vacuum the house.  The Parents and Teachers lady is coming over this afternoon and I don't want her sitting on the dog hair filled carpet.

I feel like I am starting to come out of my cloud.  For the last 6 and a half months I haven't gotten more then 3 hours of sleep at one time.  I was starting to wonder if I would ever get a good night sleep again.  Well, for the last 3 nights Samuel has slept from about 7:30 pm to 5:45 am straight.  I have been going to bed around 9:30 pm.  I wake up a few times in the middle of the night wondering if I hear him, but I normally go right back to sleep.  That is about 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep.  I feel like a new woman.  I have been drinking less coffee and I have so much more energy.
Yesterday I biked 5 miles and ran 2 miles.  Then today I ran 3 miles and did a little bit of weights.  I feel so much better.

I have set a few goals for myself.  I think I want to try doing a Sprint Triathlon.  Dave and I are going to be getting bikes soon.  With Dave's knee surgery he wants to start biking because that will be easier on his knees.  My dad used to do the MS 150 (which is a bike charity ride for muscular sclerosis).  Anyway I think my Dad, Dave and I are going to try to do it in 2009.  I really needed something to get me motivated to get back into shape.  I have no idea when we are going to get our bikes, but hopefully soon.

Last night I had a meeting at Woman's Place (I am on their advisory board) from 5:30 to 6:30.  Dave was watching Samuel and I knew that he would be getting cranky because it was close to his bedtime.  Anyway, when I got home I got him all ready for bed and then I sat down to feed him.  I think he actually missed me while I was gone.  He kept looking up at me and staring at me and smiling.  It was the cutest thing ever.  Then he curled up against me, nuzzling his face into my arm and chest and fell asleep.  I didn't want to put him down.  He has never done that before and I was in love.  It is moments like those that I am so happy to be a mother.

As promised here are some pictures

Here is Samuel, desperately trying to crawl:

Here is Dave and Samuel right after Dave's surgery:

Just a cute picture:

(I look terrible in this picture.  The bags under my eyes are god awful, but Samuel's face is hilarious, so I had to post it.)

Oma, Samuel and George:

Samuel and George:
Last night Samuel was lovin' the camera, so I took these pictures:

I don't know if you can see Samuel's hair that well in this picture, but I wondered if I could put it in a hair band and yes I could.  Dave's going to kill me when he sees these pictures.

That is it.  I am off to do laundry.

Haven't posted in a while

We have been very busy around here.  Dave's surgery was very successful.  He is sore, but doing well.  He is able to put weight on his leg and kind of bend his knee.  I asked him not to try to bend his knee in front of me because it freaks me out.  I don't even want to think about what might happen if he bent it really far and the incisions burst open.  Oh my goodness, even writing about it makes me start gagging.  We are going to be taking it easy the rest of the weekend.

Oma came in town, thank goodness to help out with Samuel, while I was taking care of Dave.  Thank you Thank you Thank you Oma!! She left this afternoon, so now I have 3 babies to take care of (Dave, Samuel and George).

I am still very tired.  Although Samuel is now sleeping much better, Dave is now waking up and needing new ice packs and pain pills.  Hopefully tonight will be better.

I was able to get away today and get a much needed massage.  It was wonderful.  I haven't had one since I was pregnant.

I will post lots of pictures tomorrow.

Have a great Saturday night and a great rest of the weekend.

More Pictures

Today I think I am going to do some organizing.  Our pantry is in terrible shape and I can't find things because nothing is organized and it is really bothering me.

Dave is having knee surgery tomorrow.  We have to be there at noon and it is an out-patient procedure.  Oma is coming in town to take care of Samuel.  I didn't want to have to drag him to the hospital and try to keep him occupied and try to keep him from screaming in the waiting room.  Oma is staying until Saturday afternoon.  I think Dave should be feeling better by then.

I don't know if it is the colder weather or what, but I am tired, cranky and my body is hurting.

I know it is only Wednesday, but it seems like it should be Thursday or Friday.  This week is taking for ever.

Here are some pictures of Samuel from this morning:

Samuel

Yesterday, George and Samuel were playing.  Then George just got sick of Samuel trying to grab her, so she took off and tried to hide by the door.  Samuel was looking all over for her.  Here are some pictures.  It was really funny.

Also, Samuel has this new grin that he does all the time.  He is starting to get really ornery and when he is about to do something he knows I don't want him to do, he gives me this look.

Then he went for George:

Then George took off and this is Samuel looking for her:

Samuel has an obsession for the TV remote.  He was sitting on Dave last night and trying desperately to get the remote.

Then this morning, Samuel woke up (after sleeping for 9.5 hours straight) with this amazing new hairdo.  I hope you can see it in this picture:

Pictures

These are pictures of Samuel standing:

These are pictures of Samuel this morning:

Sunday wasn't a very productive day.  The entire family was exhausted.  Samuel took almost a 3 hour nap and a few more naps throughout the day.  Dave took a nap and I just tried to relax.  It is amazing how going out one night can wipe the entire family out.  Thank goodness Laura and Jonathan invited us over for dinner, otherwise I don't think we would have been eating.

Samuel had peas yesterday.  He hated them so much in the morning, he wouldn't even open his mouth for the food.  But then by the afternoon, we tried them again and he really like them.  We think he was just really tired in the morning and just wanted to sleep and not eat.

Samuel is now standing by himself, while holding onto the ottoman.  It was pretty cool.  I will post a picture later.  I left my camera upstairs and I am too lazy to go up and get the memory card.

I ran 3 miles yesterday (on the treadmill).  It was raining like crazy in the morning, so I didn't meet the group of girls to run, but I had gotten myself motivated, so I ran on the treadmill.  I am about to run again.  I will try to run at least a couple of miles today.

Samuel is napping and I want to get a workout in, so I am off.

How do you know you are old?

It is, I guess now Sunday morning, almost 1 am and obviously something is not normal if I am up right now.

Dave and I came up with a list.  How do you know when you are old?
1.  It is 12 am and you are hanging out with friends and you are soooo tired. (Feels like at least 2 or 3 am).
2. You are craving Del Taco, you get in the drive-thru and there isn't a line (because it is way too fucking early, even though it feels like the middle of the night).
3. You have to put your baby to bed before you chow down on Del Taco.
4. You ask for and use the del scorcho sauce on the disgusting tacos you just ordered and your mouth is on fire because the stupid sauce is way too hot.
5. You realize you are posting a blog at 1 am, you are trashed and you only had 3 glasses of wine.
6.  Your stomach is killing you from eating Del Taco.

I think that is it.  I am so tired.  I am drinking water, thinking about getting some Gatorade and heading to bed, so I can be ready for my child to wake me up in about 5 hours.  This is awesome.  Remind me again why I decided to go out tonight.

TGIF

Here are a few updates from yesterday and today:

Yesterday Samuel took a 2 hour nap in the morning (Hip Hip Hooray)
Then he got me back by only taking a 45 minute nap in the afternoon and then proceeded to scream, cry, throw tantrums and require to be held from 2 - 4.
He then passed out from yelling so much around 4.  I was walking around holding him and he just passed out, so I sat down on the cough and I also fell asleep.  He wore me out.

Samuel is definitely my child.  He has quickly learned to throw tantrums.  I put him in his exersaucer because I could not hold him anymore.  He jumped up and down in it, kicked his feet and banged his hands on all the toys and screamed all at the same time.  It was quite a sight. Earlier in the morning he was really tired and put him in his crib and he also kicked his legs and arms on the mattress.  The thing is, I could get really frustrated and upset, but it is actually pretty humorous.

My mom told me that one day I would have a child that would act just like me and I would understand how difficult I was.  Well, I think I have a clue now.  I can't wait for him to start talking!

A few more things:

Samuel has learned to flirt.  He turns his head to the side and bats his eyes and acts like he is shy, which clearly if you have met him you know he isn't.  I don't know where he picked that up from.

Dave and I decided that it is clearly time for Samuel to be sleeping all night long.  So last night we decided that we were going to let him cry.  He woke up at 12:30 am, Dave went in and patted him and he went back to sleep about 2 minutes later.  He woke up again at 4 am and Dave had to go in 3 times and pat him. It took him less then 45 minutes to fall back asleep.  He didn't cry continuously for 45 minutes, but it took him that long to completely go back to sleep.  Then he slept until 7:15 am.  It was wonderful.  We are going to stick to this plan for the rest of the weekend and hopefully by Sunday night he will sleep all night long.

Lastly, I have worked out 3 days in a row.  I feel so much better.  I am meeting a group on Sunday morning around 8 am for a 3 mile run.  The group is going to train for a half-marathon.  Not sure if I will be doing that, but at least I can run with them and it will motivate me.

That is it for now.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Not much going on here

I have so many errands to run today.  Our fridge is complete empty, so I need to run to the grocery store and get us food!

Samuel is getting up on his hands and knees.  I don't think he is that close to crawling, but maybe in the next couple of weeks.

When I check on him sleeping at night, he has his knees pulled under him, so I think he is practicing crawling in his crib.

I don't have much to say today, so that is it for today.

Pictures from Our Trip

I gave him toys in his crib to play with.  I went to fold the laundry, came back in and he had piled them all behind him.

Here is how much he loves bananas:

Samuel thinks that the way to kiss someone is to open his mouth and lick people (that is what George does to him, so that is what he does to other people).  Here he is giving Steven a big wet one:

That's it for now.
