Happy New Year!

I can't believe that it is almost 2008. This is the beginning of my new life. This past Friday was my last day at work. Thank goodness. My boss was absolutely terrible. I think she was jumping for joy when she said good-bye to me on Friday. She couldn't have been happier. I came to the conclusion that the reason why she couldn't stand me working for her anymore, is because I didn't need her. She has very little self-esteem, although she will tell you very differently. She thinks she has tons of confidence and everyone else doesn't have any, but I think if you have to tell people over and over again how much confidence you have, you must have none, so you just try to reassure yourself that you do. Anyway, I was really good at what I did and I didn't need her as much. She really like someone coming to her with questions and asking how to do things.

I also think that me being pregnant and enjoying my life, really pissed her off too. She didn't like the fact that I could be happy, not practicing law. She kept telling me over and over again that I will come back to work really quickly because why would I waste my time at home with a baby when I worked so hard to get where I am today. I don't think she understands the concept of being fulfilled in other ways that don't necessarily have to do with making tons of money. Which by the way I never made working for her because she is way to selfish.

If you can't tell, I am extremely happy not to have to go back to work. It took me a couple of days to wind down. I couldn't sleep Friday night because I was so stressed out from the last 6 months of hell. Saturday night I slept great and then last night I had trouble sleeping again because I was thinking about the fact that I didn't have to go to work today. Yes!

This new year is going to be pretty exciting. We are going to have the baby is about 2 months. It is crazy. I have so much to do before the baby comes. our house is a completely wreck. I can't wait to clean everything. I will start that tomorrow or Wednesday.

Have a very happy new year everyone. I won't post again until 2008!!!!!!

Winding Down

We were in Michigan from Saturday until yesterday. It was very nice. Thank goodness we left when we did because this morning on the news it said that there waws freezing fog and no planes were allowed to leave Detriot. We would have been stuck at the airport probably all day. Anyway, it was a very nice trip. We met our nephew, Jacob for the first time. He was very cute! I will have to post pictures at some point.

So we got back to St. Louis around noon yesterday and we had no food at our house. So we decided the only place we could think of that was open was the Casino. So, for the 3rd year in a row, we went to the Casino on Christmas. We figured this would be the last time we will be able to go for many many years. There is a new Casino that opended in St. Louis, Lumire Place or something like that. I can't really spell today because my brain is still very tired after such a long nice break. Anyway, we ate at the new burger bar. You can create your own burger. I had a turkey burger with cheddar, shredded beets and pickled green tomatoes. It was very very good. Dave had a Kobe beef burger, with swiss and bacon. His was very good too. So, we got our lunch/dinner in and then went to the Casino.

I finally won! I won almost $70.00 on the penny slots. I put in $20 and and walked away with almost $90. It was awesome. I never ever win. Then I played other penny slots and won just a little bit. It was great. I haven't been to the casino in a while, so it was nice to win. So that was our excitement yesterday. Then we got in bed around 6:30 and watched TV and I have no idea when I fell asleep. It was a great way to end our long break. I hope everyone else had a nice relaxing holiday.

So, the countdown really has begun. I only have 3 more days of work left!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited. I can't wait. I think Dave and I are going to celebrate either Friday or Saturday night. Thank goodness, I will be done.

Time to get back to work.

Happy Birthday to John and Chris, they turn the big 30 today!

Yesterday we had our Christmas Party at work. It was very nice, but the best part was the fact that the office threw me a surprise baby shower. I was really surprised. I had no idea at all. There was cake and food and presents. I will have to post pictures later of the cakes. They were so cute. I haven't had time to download anything, but I will in just about a week.

3 and a half work days to go. I am slammed with stuff to do and finalize before I leave, plus I have to train the new associate one morning next week. That should be a blast.

I haven't exercised in at least a week and I feel huge. I need to go for a walk or get on some exercise machine. I feel so disgusting. I can't wait to be able to work out a little bit everyday. It will be so nice.

We are leaving for Michigan tomorrow. It is going to be so cold.

I will not be positng until after Christmas, so I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas.

We are going to Michigan on Saturday and staying until Tuesday morning. I have tons of laundry to do and packing. We have stuff planned every evening, except Wedensday, but I think that will be filling up soon too.

Birthing Class

Happy 30th Brithday Justin!!

So last night we had our first class at the hospital. We got a tour of the facility and got the see a couple really cute new born babies in the nursery. The class was pretty good, just really long. We are pooped. Luckily we have nothing planned for the rest of the week until Friday.

I can't wait to go home early and put on my pj's and go to bed early.

I am up to 6 pillows in the bed now, just for me. George doesn't even have room to sleep, so Dave (who never wanted George on the bed in the first place) let her sleep on his side. She slept balled up in his corner all night. Then she came over to my side in the morning and laid right on top of me. She must have missed being close to me all night. Anyway, the bed is getting really full with pillows, but I am sleeping great, so I don't really care if no one else has room.

That is it for now.

Last Day of Hanukkah

Tonight is the last night of Hanukkah and we will be celebrating by going to another birthing class. Hip Hip Hooray! Dave and I celebrated this year by lighting the candles and eating lots of cookies. I also gave him an early holiday present. I couldn't keep the present hidden, so I gave it to him. I got him a really nice watch. He really needed one and since he surprised me for our anniversary, I wanted to surprise him. He thought I was going to be giving him a CD, so that made it even better.

Charisa asked me to post a little somethign about Hanukkah, so I have put the history below for everyone to read. The best part of Hanukkah is the 8 days of presents when you are a kid, hanukkah gelt (money and playing with the dreidel. enjoy the history.

The History of Hanukkah

Hanukkah is celebrated for eight days and nights, starting on the 25th of Kislev on the Hebrew calendar (which is November-December on the Gregorian calendar). In Hebrew, the word "Hanukkah" means "dedication."

The holiday commemorates the rededication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem after the Jews' 165 B.C.E. victory over the Hellenist Syrians. Antiochus, the Greek King of Syria, outlawed Jewish rituals and ordered the Jews to worship Greek gods.

In 168 B.C.E. the Jews' holy Temple was seized and dedicated to the worship of Zeus.

Some Jews were afraid of the Greek soldiers and obeyed them, but most were angry and decided to fight back.

The fighting began in Modiin, a village not far from Jerusalem. A Greek officer and soldiers assembled the villagers, asking them to bow to an idol and eat the flesh of a pig, activities forbidden to Jews. The officer asked Mattathias, a Jewish High Priest, to take part in the ceremony. He refused, and another villager stepped forward and offered to do it instead. Mattathias became outraged, took out his sword and killed the man, then killed the officer. His five sons and the other villagers then attacked and killed the soldiers. Mattathias' family went into hiding in the nearby mountains, where many other Jews who wanted to fight the Greeks joined them. They attacked the Greek soldiers whenever possible.

Judah Maccabee and his soldiers went to the holy Temple, and were saddened that many things were missing or broken, including the golden menorah. They cleaned and repaired the Temple, and when they were finished, they decided to have a big dedication ceremony. For the celebration, the Maccabees wanted to light the menorah. They looked everywhere for oil, and found a small flask that contained only enough oil to light the menorah for one day. Miraculously, the oil lasted for eight days. This gave them enough time to obtain new oil to keep the menorah lit. Today Jews celebrate Hanukkah for eight days by lighting candles in a menorah every night, thus commemorating the eight-day miracle.

Nothing new

This weekend flew by and I feel like I didn't get anything done. I took Friday off and I was busy every single second of the day running errands. We had two Christmas parties this past weekend, so I was pooped. We didn't get home until after 11 on both nights and I just can't do that anymore. We ate at Flemings for the party on Saturday night. It was very good with HUGE portions. I really like their creamed spinach. That was the highlight of the night for me. I am not going to write a review for Flemings because it is a chain and anyone can go to it. I just like to write reviews for restaurants that not everyone can go to, just in case they travel through the area. It was good and over-priced, so go if you want.

I didn't mention this before, but the natural child birth classes we are taking recommend that I eat 75 grams of protein a day. Can you believe that? I can't. That is a lot of food. Anyway, I have figured out how to get a lot of protein by not eating so much. I am actually fuller by eating more protein, so I am not eating as much as I was before. Let me tell you though, it is tough to keep track of your food intake. I have never counted calories or watched what I ate, so this is kind of hard. Anyway, for the last week or so I have been trying to consume lots of protein (in between my cupcakes and cookies).

I made the best peanut butter, caramel/chocolate chip cookies this past weekend. I will grab the recipe when I get home and post it. It was amazing and easy. I don't normally eat the cookies I make, I just give them out to people, but I couldn't help myself on this one. It was soooo good.

Have a great week everyone.

I had my doctor's appointment yesterday. The orange drink wasn't too bad, I tried to drink it as quickly as possible. It was just very sugary syrup. Kind of gross. I am happy that part is over. I haven't gotten my results back from the glucose test, but I will be very surprised if I have gestational diabetes. I feel great physically, so I don't anticipate any issues, but we will see.

I am happy though that I only gained 5 pounds since my last visit about 5 weeks ago. The doctor said that I did a very good job of the weight control especially since it it the holiday season. She said tons of people have come in and had gained 10 to 15 pounds since their last visit. I would die, if I gained that much.

I am measuring 28 weeks, only a week ahead of schedule. It is pretty exciting.

We attended a breastfeeding class last night. It was actually a very good class, we learned a lot. It didn't really help me with the fear of breastfeeding though. I know it is a wonderful benefit to the baby to breast feed, but does it weird anyone else out? I am really going to have to get used to the idea of a baby eating out of my boob. Very strange.

I can't wait to write about that whole experience.

Have a great Thursday.

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah, so I hope everyone who celebrates has a wonderful evening. It is so early this year, I haven't even had time to think about gifts. Oh well. At least I have 8 days to think of something.

I am not very motivated lately. Very difficult to get anything done.

Tomorrow I have my doctor's appointment. Not really looking forward to the blood drawing and drinking some nasty drink. I will let you know how it goes. I am also not looking forward to getting on the scale. I already know I have gained a ton, so why do they need to know the actual amount? Thanksgiving and holiday cookie making hasn't really helped with the weight gain either.

15 work days left, thank goodness. It is getting more and more difficult to get up in the morning. Have to continue to think positive!

Comments, Weekend Errands

I love all the comments you all have left. I love knowing that people are looking and ready my blog. I am sure I will have much more interesting stuff to read about once I quit work and the baby comes.

Dave and I ran errands all day today and spent a good two hours at Home Depot. We desperately needed to fix things in our master bathroom, so we bought new faucets and a new shower door. Both are both currently absolutely disgusting. We have needed to do this for a long time, but have been putting it off until both of us were so disgusted. We reached that point this past week.

I am so tired. I love the weekends and then we run errands all day and then the weekend is over.

Note to self - never check work email over the weekend. I just spent about 5 to 10 minutes screaming at the computer because of all the work I am supposed to do. Whatever, I am so done! I am only working 15 full days in December. They can't come quicker.

I think I am going to make some holiday cookies tomorrow, in between all the laundry and my pre-natal yoga class.

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier. Dave and I had our first Natural Child Birth Class. We are planning to use the Bradley Method. Anyway it is a 10 weeks class, so there is a real possibility that we could have the baby shortly after the last class. I would be 36 weeks and since this is the first, I have no idea if I will be early, late or what. Kind of scary.

Anyway, we had our first class with one other couple. It is like getting private lessons. This last class was just learning relaxation techniques, which I have already learned in my pre-natal yoga class. So far so good. Oh the craziest part is the amount of protein I should be eating. They suggested that I eat 75 grams of protein, basically impossible. I thought I was eating a lot, but apparently not enough protein. We will see how that goes.

We have our first breast-feeding class next week. It is just one evening class, so it shouldn't be too bad. I will let you know how it goes.

Adam and Theresa congratulations on your new baby girl! We are excited for you.

Have a great weekend everyone and stay warm.
