Thank goodness it is Friday

This week has worn me out.  Luckily Dave gets off early today.  He told me he would take care of Samuel while I tried to clean the house up a bit before Book Club tonight.  Yes, I have started another book club.  I am really excited about the group we have because everyone is so laid back and hopefully we will pick some good books.  This is our first gathering, so we are going to hang out and pick a book tonight.  Any suggestions?

I am so happy that it is Labor Day weekend.  Hopefully Dave and I will work on getting Samuel to sleep through the night.  I am pretty tired.

I have lots of stuff to do while Samuel is asleep.  Have a great weekend.

The beginning of food

Yesterday Samuel had sweet potatoes for the first time.  He LOVED them.  I figured since he is going to be 6 months in about a week and a half, he is okay to start slowly adding in some veggies and fruits.  We are going to do sweet potatoes for a week, then bananas, then avocados.  I don't want to do more then one food a week, just so I can make sure he doesn't have a reaction.  I plan on making all his baby food, because it really isn't difficult at all.  Yesterday, I made some baby food and froze it.  I made corn and cauliflower.  They can stay frozen for about 6 weeks, so eventually we will get to those.  I want to do as many veggies as possible and then slowly add in fruit.  We will see how it goes.  He just seems so hungry, so I figured I know him best and it is time.

For those of you that read my blog, but don't really know who I am talking about when I talk about the grandparents, I thought I would post some pictures.

This is Savta and Papa:

This is Oma and Opa:

One of these days we will get some pictures where Samuel is actually looking at the camera.

FYI: Pottery Barn Kids and Crate and Barrel are having amazing sales online.  I just bought a new hooded towel for Samuel for $14.99.  What a bargain.

My baby has some new kicks

Yesterday was a busy and frustrating day.  We went shopping for a little bit and I am pretty sure Samuel is teething.

What are the signs you ask:
1. Fever - last time he got teeth he also got a fever for a few days before they came in. He is acting completely normal, so I know he isn't sick.
2. Explosive shits - I can't get used to this poopy diaper stuff.  It is gross.  Yesterday was the first time Dave had to change an explosive diaper (lucky him, I can't even count the amount I have changed).  Anyway it was disgusting and got all over Samuel's shorts, shirt, legs, back, etc.  Last time he was teething we had a full week of his explosive shits.
3. Extreme crankiness - He can't get comfortable.  He whines and moans and cries and wants me to hold him, then doesn't want me to hold him.  Needless to say, I am so freaking tired and I wanted to kill him.  He is sleeping now and hopefully that will last for a while.

When Samuel was in a good mood yesterday we went shopping.  I had gone to Nordstroms last week and found some awesome shoes and I wanted to buy them so badly, but they were like $45.00.  Screw that, I wasn't about to spend that amount of money on Samuel, I would much rather spend it on myself!  Then Sunday rolled around and well wouldn't you know, almost the exact shoes were at Target (of course knock offs, but they looked almost identical).  I went to Target to buy the shoes and ended up getting him 3 different pairs.  The total price was less then $40.00.  I put the shoes on him and he didn't like them too much, but that could have been because he was working up his explosive shit! (About 10 minutes after the shoes were on, he let loose with his bowels).   And I know you all wanted to hear all about this, but hey this is my life, so deal.

The face says it all:

Here he is trying to walk:

I also got him some new sunglasses a few months ago and we went for a walk on Monday and I took some pictures.

Well, the little pain in my ass is waking up, so I better go.

Not a relaxing weekend

I am so tired, I don't feel like I had a weekend at all.

We had our garage sale.  We didn't sell much stuff, only about $40.00 worth.  It was so hot on Saturday and people didn't want to stop.  Oh well, at least we have one garage sale under our belt.  Here is a picture of the family hanging out.

Dave was really sick all weekend and couldn't really do much.  We think Samuel is teething again because he is super cranky, wants to chew on all cold hard things,  and sometimes he moans like he is in pain.  Also, he didn't sleep at all this weekend, so of course I didn't sleep either.  He wants to eat non-stop.  Yesterday I woke up with him around 6:45 am and I didn't sit down to relax until about 9:00 pm last night.  I finally was able to take a shower around 8:45 last night.  I got in bed, read a little and then went to bed, only to be woken up 2 and a half hours later by Samuel.  It would be an understatement for me to say I am exhausted.

Here are some more pictures from this weekend.  Samuel and George love each other.

This is Samuel this morning in our bed.

I'm not in a food coma

The macaroni and cheese was so good last night. We ate a lot and Dave took a bunch for lunch today.  I am so done with cheese.  Anyone want to come over and eat some.  We have a huge bag full.  We have crackers too.  Just bring some wine and summer sausage and we are set.

My goal today is to get everything ready for the garage sale.

Thank goodness it is Friday.  I am so ready for the weekend.  Have a great weekend everyone!

I can't believe how fast

This is the first time in a long time that I feel like the day has flown by.  Samuel took a two hour nap this afternoon and I didn't waste a second of that time.  When I went in to get Samuel from his nap, I watched him roll from one end of the crib to the other.  I am still amazed at how fast he is changing.  Yesterday he lifted his arms up for me to pick him up.  We are also working on waving bye-bye.  He is very close.  He sort of waved to the lady at Ace Hardware yesterday when we were leaving.  I was obviously overly excited and the lady looked at me like I was crazy.  Oh well, I'm used to getting crazy looks.

Dave and I are having a garage sale on Saturday.  If anyone wants to bring stuff over, you can (or you could just come over and hang out, that is okay too).  I have so much stuff to organize to get ready for it, but I am determined.  I didn't do anything for the garage sale while Samuel was sleeping, so I am going to have to work on all of that tonight.

I did however make the yummiest macaroni and cheese ever.  We have so much freakin' cheese left over from my party, so I decided to make homemade macaroni and cheese.  I haven't made it in sooo long, but we need to get rid of this cheese.  I started to make the sauce, but I didn't have enough milk, so I used a little soy milk and a shit load of different kinds of cheese.  I wanted to get it ready this afternoon so I could just throw it in the oven tonight for dinner.  Of course I had to taste the sauce to make sure it was flavorful enough and OH MY GOODNESS I could have drank the sauce it was so good.   It probably has an enormous amount of fat and calories, but I don't care.  I did use organic 100% whole wheat pasta to balance it out.  Hopefully it will be just as tasty tonight when I pop it in the oven.  I am going to make a huge salad too so we don't feel too bad eating the macaroni and cheese.

If I don't post tomorrow it is because I am in a food coma.

It could be time

After Samuel's morning nap I went in his room to get him and I had my camera because he is normally in a really good mood when he wakes up and this is what I saw.

Then he was playing around in his crib and is now very good at sitting.  This past weekend he started rolling, so he is working himself to the side of the crib and trying desperately to pull himself up.  So I think it could be time to lower the mattress.  The last thing I need is for Samuel to figure out how to sit up and pull himself up at night and then fall out of bed.  That would be awesome.

I am pretty tired today.  I couldn't fall asleep and then Samuel woke up every 3 hours, so my head is starting to really hurt.

I am craving mexican food so badly today.  I already made a really big salad and bought really good bread to have with dinner, so I am trying to tell myself I don't need the mexican food, but I want it.

Thank you so much Dave, Mom and Dad, Jonathan and Laura for my new camera.  I ended up getting a Canon XSi.  They don't make the XTi anymore.  Anyway, I love love love it.  It takes awesome pictures.  I am finally able to get pictures of Samuel smiling.  Before it would take so long for my camera to focus and take the picture, so I would always miss his smiles.

Here are some pictures taken with the new camera.

He has this obsession with sticking his tongue out all the time now:

I am obsessed with the camera.  I have already taken at least a thousand pictures since I got it on Friday.  I feel like a professional photographer sometimes.

Tonight Dave and I gave Samuel some applesauce.  I mixed a little bit in his rice cereal and I gave him a tiny bit to taste on his own.  I wish we had the camera rolling because the look he gave when he tasted the applesauce alone was priceless.  I haven't seen he face get so scrunched up before, it was so funny.  We gave him a few more tastes, just so we could see his face.

This is a first

I have thought for a while that I wanted to hire a young babysitter to come over for a few hours a day to watch Samuel while I got stuff done at the house.  Well, today is the first.  Too bad school starts for her tomorrow.  One of the Judges that I do a lot of work with has a daughter that is 12 and a half years old (when she told me her age, she was sure to include the additional "half".  Oh the days where you wanted to be older and thought it was cool to include the extra half year.  Never again will I be doing that.  I would be happy to go back a half a year).  Anyway, she came over this morning and then Samuel went down for a nap and I ran and got gas in the car and to Target.  I came home, Samuel was up, I fed him and then I just got done exercising and now I am on the computer.  This is so nice.

Not sure when I am going to be able to use her again, since she is starting the 7th grade tomorrow.  She is soo excited.

I am now going to take a very long relaxing shower.

What a Surprise

Well, I couldn't have asked for a better birthday.  I want to thank everyone for coming in town and being at the party to celebrate.  Dave really outdid himself this time.  Our house is still super clean if anyone wants to come over, we also have tons of birthday cake.

I will try to post pictures a little later after I go through the hundreds that were taken.

Thank you all so much!

Happy Birthday to me!

Well I am the big 30 today.  Pretty scary.  I can't believe it.  I have been relaxing all morning.  My mom, dad, Samuel, George and I went on a walk and now I am off to shower and get ready for the day.

I get my new camera this afternoon when Dave gets off work.  Pretty sure I am getting the Canon XTI.  Can't wait to post pictures with my new camera.

Tomorrow is my birthday party!  I didn't think I had a birthday party in my adult life, but then Megan reminded me of my 21st (I had a big party and didn't even make it to the bar that night).  I don't really consider my 21st real adult life though.  Being in college in celebrating a birthday isn't the same.  I wasn't married, didn't have a house, hadn't worked and didn't have a kid.  I am officially and adult now.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Yesterday Samuel wouldn't take a very long afternoon nap, so luckily it was a nice day and we went outside for about an hour.  Here are some pictures below.

I also got a much better picture of his teeth.  He wasn't very happy that day, but at least I got a good picture.

Yesterday when we were outside, Samuel started to get up on his knees.  Maybe it is practice for crawling.  Not sure if I am ready for that.  He barely sits still now, I am going to be running around like crazy once he starts crawling.  I guess we better purchase gates soon.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

It's Tuesday, thank goodness.  I didn't cough that much last night.  Dave slept in the basement because I have been coughing so much the last few nights he hasn't gotten any sleep.  He says he still didn't sleep well, but at least my coughing didn't keep him up.  I am feeling so much better today.  I will be 100% by my birthday, hopefully the rest of the family will be too.

My parents are coming in town for my birthday.  My mom is coming tomorrow night and my dad is coming Thursday night.  At least I will get a little bit of a break during the day from Samuel, since the grandparents are coming.

Forgot to give an update on the diet Dave and I were on.  In 2 weeks, I lost 8 pounds and Dave lost about 10.  Pretty good.  We are trying to keep up the healthy eating for the rest of the week, so we can pig out on Saturday, my BIG birthday party day.  I plan to eat a huge piece of cake.  Marble cake with chocolate frosting, my favorite!

Time to relax while the baby sleeps.

Busy Weekend

We were at the Lake of the Ozarks this past Thursday through Saturday.  I had to go to a Family Law Conference and Dave and Samuel came along as well.  I wish it had been a nicer weekend, but I am coughing up a storm.  I can't seem to stop.  I went to the doctor on Thursday and he said it was viral and it should go away.  That isn't much help because I feel like shit.  I must get better before Friday.

I was really worried that I would get Samuel sick.  He started coughing a little bit on Saturday night.  He is still coughing a little and acting completely fine, but the last thing I want is for him to get sick because of me.  I called the doctor to find out if there is anything I can give him to help with his coughing and what I should do to try to prevent him from getting sick.  I haven't gotten a call back yet.

I am also having some issues with breastfeeding.  Ever since Samuel got teeth, it hasn't been the greatest time.  He isn't biting me (very much that is and he isn't doing it on purpose), but I am in a lot of pain.  Anyway, I am not ready to stop breastfeeding him, so I have got to get through this rough time.

I am going to make a salad for dinner now.  While Samuel is asleep I am trying to get lots done this morning.  Also, my life is pretty boring right now, so I don't have much to talk about.

Oh lastly, Congrats to Ashcraft on his recent engagement.  Now we all need to meet Ari!

5 Month Picture

It took all day of me trying to get a good 5 month picture of Samuel, but it wasn't until he was about ready to go to bed and we decided to head outside for a little bit that I got one I liked (I posted - look to the right).  Here are a few from the day.

From the morning:

This is the end of a smile:
This is his ornery  look:
This was almost close to his nap time.  Check out that hair:

We had a full day and I am pooped.  I am heading to bed to try to fight off this cold.  I can't have a cold on my birthday!

Samuel is 5 months today

It is Samuel's 5 month birthday today.  I have been trying to take pictures of him all day, but I don't know if I captured a good one yet.  I will post it when I get it.

He has accomplished a lot in his 4th month:
He now sits up
He eats rice cereal
He is constantly laughing
He got two teeth
He slept through the night ONE time (We are working on continuing this one!)

I think that is it.

We are getting new carpeting tomorrow in our dining room and family room so I am trying to clear out some of our furniture and clean off the book shelves, etc.

Samuel is sleeping so I better get busy.

Monday

I can't believe it is Monday.  The weekends just fly by.  I feel like I am fighting a cold.  My body aches everywhere, but the cold hasn't come yet.

I have been trying to get pictures of Samuel's two bottom teeth for days now, but he won't cooperate.  He doesn't like for anyone to pull his bottom lip down to look at his teeth, he will only allow us to stick our finger in his mouth to feel them.  So last night Dave tried to get a picture and this was the best we could get:

These are also pictures from last night.  He was cranky last night and so cute.

Lots of Pictures

Yesterday Dave and I were trying to get some pictures of Samuel and George since Samuel can sit up now.  Here our the attempts.

Samuel is trying to reach and grab George's tail.

This is a good one of Samuel sitting.

George didn't know what to think so she was looking at Dave and wouldn't look at the camera.
I got one picture of Samuel starting to fall.

This picture is great because you can see the tons of spit falling from his chin.

Yesterday Aunt Laura came over while the boys went golfing and we normally feed Samuel around 4:15 his rice cereal, so Laura said she would feed him.  I love this picture, look at both of their faces!

The rest are just snapshots I took while he was being fed.   Have a great weekend everyone!
